When I first arrived in Congress, this was the map of broadband coverage across Virginia. Of our ten counties, only two were in the blue!

But yesterday, I was in Goochland County to celebrate a $72 million grant that will bring broadband to counties across Central Virginia, including three more in our district! And beyond that, our Commonwealth has just allocated $722 million to cover 72 more localities across Virginia. This is a direct result of purposeful federal investments that I was proud to support and vote for and effective implementation by our governor and his team!

Broadband, broadband, broadband. . . I have talked about broadband with anyone and everyone on Capitol Hill and back home in our district. I have pursued every grant program, every legislative effort, and every platform to elevate the need for and our federal commitment to bringing broadband to our economies and constituents.

Yesterday, as people circulated, celebrating the announcement, a county leader approached me and said, “Do you remember when you hosted the broadband summit in Louisa?”

“Yes, of course,” I replied. How could I forget? In 2019, as a new representative, I had been proud to bring elected leaders, USDA officials, and academics together to discuss the need for broadband and how to optimize local and federal efforts to get it.

He continued, “Back then, all you could do was listen, and you did. This makes a difference.”

This is why I love my job because every day, there is a chance to listen and to make a difference. Whether it’s with broadband or any other issue impacting people’s lives, our communities, our Commonwealth or our Country, I listen and work to make a difference.
