Fifteen years ago, Health Affairs created the Health Affairs Blog as a new avenue to move beyond 4,000-word research papers into a then up-and-coming digital publishing environment. At the onset, the Health Affairs Blog mission and purpose was to publish thoughtful, focused comments on topics that scan the health policy horizon, all in 500 to 1,000 words.

Today, we are excited to share with you that Health Affairs is rebranding our blog to Health Affairs Forefront.

The name change reflects what the blog has become over its evolution: a heavily cited, rigorously-reviewed and prolific digital publication.

Just this year, for example, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Administrator Chiquita Brooks-LaSure and colleagues published their roadmap for innovation at the agency. Georgetown University’s Katie Keith and other have published 73 articles as part of our prompt, comprehensive coverage by the Following the ACA series.

Forefront has become a daily destination for health policy professionals and the health care industry to catch up on the ideas that thought leaders and peers are exploring in the field. We want our publication to reflect that reality and highlight that prestige for both the authors and readers.

The mission of Health Affairs Forefront will stay the same: Create a space for rigorous, action-oriented insights related to health policy research, ideas, and current policy events.

No changes will be made to the publication’s content but expect a change in that content’s presentation. Forefront will still publish multiple impactful and timely articles and research weekly. Forefront will continue to be a place where government officials announce new initiatives, future policy ideas are vetted, and thought leaders provide up-to-date and curated analyses on the leading edge of health policy.

Forefront will always give readers a seat at the table for the important discussions on health policy reform. We’ve also listened to the health policy community’s requests and feedback about citing the publication and plan to incorporate ways to make Forefront more easily discoverable, citable, and linkable.

All articles will be deposited into CrossRef. Health Affairs Forefront will now be indexed in Google Scholar in addition to Google and Google News.

We are excited about this next phase of evolution of content for the health policy community. In addition to ensuring that our articles are high-quality and timely, we’ve been busy producing podcasts and free virtual events.
