I’m excited to share this news with you: A bill that would ban fracking nationally has been introduced in Congress!
The Future Generations Protection Actwould ban fracking by 2025, end oil and gas exports, and stop power plants that run on fossil fuels. This is the only bill currently in Congress that directly stops fossil fuel production, transport and combustion!
Demand for fracked oil and gas has cratered. The world is drowning in fossil fuels that no one wants. Yet Big Oil & Gas continues to push for ways to build dangerous new infrastructure like power plants and export facilities in order to artificially prop up demand. Its goal is to drill every penny of profit out of its dying industry — no matter how much greenhouse gas it spews into the atmosphere — pushing the planet toward irreversible climate chaos.
But we're not going to let that happen.
The only way to protect our water and climate from the recklessness of the fossil fuel industry is to ban fracking and related infrastructure once and for all. With your help, we can push for the solutions we need to fight climate change, like the Future Generations Protection Act. This is the essential, urgent climate action we need NOW.
Big Oil & Gas has spent decades buying policies to keep its failing industry afloat and stop the growth of clean, renewable alternatives. It wants you to believe we can regulate our way toward a “clean” fossil fuel industry. But every step of fracked gas production and use — from wells to compressor stations to pipelines to power plants — is dangerous and dirty. It means leaks, explosions and deadly pollution. Exporting oil and gas locks us into more drilling, more fracking and more dangerous infrastructure.
Right now, we’re witnessing firsthand the devastating impacts of climate change. With global temperatures rising, we will continue to see more extreme weather disasters. This is why our work to ban fracking, stop new drilling permits, shut down dangerous fossil fuel infrastructure and transition to 100% clean, renewable energy is more critical than ever.
The Future Generations Protection Act is a real step toward the 100% clean, renewable energy future we need to avert the worst impacts of climate change.
