John,

This past Friday, the Supreme Court handed down a ruling with profound consequences for women across the country.

Ruling on Whole Woman’s Health v. Jackson, the conservative packed United States Supreme Court decided that not only could Texas’s extreme abortion ban remain in effect, but they also gave the go-ahead for other states to write and implement new laws that blatantly violate the protections set forth in Roe v. Wade.

In case you aren’t familiar, the legislation which the court ruled to uphold was Texas Senate Bill 8. Senate Bill 8 effectively bans all abortions after six weeks. Most people are unaware of their pregnancy until after six weeks, meaning this is all but a full ban on abortion. Knowing the state can’t legally sue the doctors, Texas has delegated that responsibility to the general public. Anyone - and we mean anyone - who is aware of an abortion taking place can start a lawsuit against everyone involved (except the recipient of the abortion - a loophole to circumvent stipulations of Roe v. Wade).

With this law being upheld and the Supreme Court being expected to put the final nails in the coffin of Roe v. Wade by mid-summer, we know that this is just the beginning to a very dark road ahead.

We know Republicans will stop at nothing until abortion is banned in every state in America. In fact, since 1984, the Republican Party platform has called for a constitutional amendment banning abortion nationwide.

At 18, I had an abortion. Had I been forced to go through with the pregnancy, I wouldn’t be running for office today. Our country needs champions who will go to war for the protection of women’s reproductive rights and I will not back down.

Help our campaign succeed. With just $10 today, you can help us fight for reproductive justice and for the right of all people to safe, affordable, and legal abortion.
