Students sit at the center of education, yet there's often little opportunity for them to speak directly to leaders shaping the policies that impact them. The COVID-19 pandemic turned a looming teacher shortage into one that is both immediate and severe. As we look forward, we must not only consider ways to fill labor gaps, but to build a stronger and more diverse educator pipeline. A growing body of evidence points to teacher residencies as an effective preparation model, allowing individuals to spend a school year learning in an expert mentor teacher’s classroom while simultaneously completing community-based, clinically-aligned coursework. Join us as we partner with the National Center for Teacher Residencies for a conversation around how teacher residency programs prepare and retain effective and diverse teachers.
