Help Hungry Seniors this Holiday Season

Patricia is 84-years old and homebound due to poor health. She has a very limited income and knew that applying for SNAP (formerly called food stamps) would help her afford more nutritious foods to improve her health. She tried on her own to apply but after being only approved for $16 a month in food assistance, she felt sad and was too discouraged from going through the extra barrier of traveling with her deteriorating health to obtain an EBT card.

That is where Hunger Free America and supporters like you came in to help! Our staff was able to examine her case and found out that Patricia was actually receiving $234 a month (an eligibility expansion due to the federal stimulus during COVID, for which we advocated strongly). We were also able to request her benefits card be mailed to her, so she did not have to risk her health to pick one up. When Patricia received her EBT card, it had a total of $1,084 of unused benefits on it. This will help Patricia afford the nutritious diet her doctor recommends she follows.
