Hey team,

My name is Dr. Kim Schrier. I'm a pediatrician, mom, and NewDem, and I represent Washington's 8th Congressional District. In fact, I’m the first pediatrician ever elected to the House, and the only pro-choice female physician in Congress. I'm reaching out today because I'm running for re-election, and this is going to be my toughest race yet. That’s saying a lot, since I’m the first Democrat to ever represent Washington’s 8th district.

Republicans only need to flip five seats to retake the House majority and they've named my seat one of their top targets. We recently learned another challenger, Reagan Dunn — son of the congresswoman who represented this district for 12 years, has entered our race with the backing of the Republican establishment — meaning three conservative candidates are working to flip this seat and help Republicans retake the House majority.

GOP dark money groups have already launched over $500,000 in attack ads against me, and the first public poll shows this is a one-point race. I never even considered running for political office until after the 2016 election. I watched Republicans in Congress stand in lock step on the wrong side of every issue near and dear to my heart — health care, environment, education, children’s wellbeing. And then I saw my own representative vote to repeal the Affordable Care Act. As a physician and a person with type 1 diabetes, that was the last straw for me. I decided to run for Congress and flip a seat, and I’m one of the women who helped flip the House in 2018.

Since coming to Congress, I've helped pass legislation to lower the cost of prescription drugs, including insulin, invest in America’s infrastructure, protect the quality of our air and water, and take substantive steps to prevent catastrophic wildfires. Now, I'm running for re-election to continue to serve my district and the country, but I can't win without your support.
