Team,
Today, in cities, towns, and communities across America, we are celebrating the founding of our great democracy 243 years ago.
In 1776, our Founders stood at the crossroads of the past, the present, and the future. They recognized that for America to survive and thrive, the momentous challenges of their day needed to be faced and overcome.
It was up to them to carve out a new nation, a republic, the likes of which had never been seen before.
The courage and keen foresight of the Founders has been carried forward in each generation by others who assumed the mantle of forming a more perfect union.
Frederick Douglass. Abraham Lincoln. Susan B. Anthony. Elizabeth Cady Stanton. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Margaret Sanger. Harvey Milk. Mae Jemison. Cesar Chavez.
Immigrants like my mother and her parents coming to America after surviving persecution and tyranny.
Ordinary people who stepped forward to accomplish extraordinary things, renewing the strength and hope of our great republic in every generation.
Team, all of us are Founders, too. All of us are called upon to keep alive the original dream of the Founders who met in Philadelphia 243 years ago -- and make it stronger.
Today, as we celebrate the founding of America, let us find the energy and the courage to keep building and rejuvenating the nation we love as we confront the momentous challenges of our time.
With gratitude for all our Founders, past and present.
Michael
