Dear John,
Sandy was at a JBS supplier feedlot for just a few days when tragedy struck. After months of awaiting her baby, she gave birth to a stillborn calf.
Sandy's story isn't unique. On this feedlot alone, several cows were seen mourning their lost babies. Some suffered prolapses after labor without proper veterinary care.
The horrible conditions for these animals could have contributed to this. Cows endured triple-digit heat, unnatural diets aimed at making cattle grow faster, and other stressors of life at a feedlot.
Regardless of the cause behind these tragedies, we must fight to change the system that allows them. |
