Friends, for as much as we talk about what a future with citizenship would look like for millions, we don’t always portray just how difficult it is to live while undocumented.
So today, I wanted to share Katia’s story with you — one of United We Dream Action’s leaders in Texas. Her story depicts just how many aspects of daily life are impacted by being undocumented.
Katia, is a student from Houston, Texas, has limited opportunities available to her — with access to critical resources like financial aid for higher education or health insurance out of reach because of her citizenship status.
A pathway to citizenship would allow Katia’s family to work in jobs that aren’t limited to grueling farm work. It would allow Katia to attend medical school and have the same opportunities as her other peers, regardless of citizenship status.
Right now, Katia and her family live in fear of being taken advantage of by their employers over their undocumented status. Katia lives under the constant fear of detention or deportation to a country she’s never been to.
That’s why she’s fighting for a pathway to citizenship, and we need you now, more than ever, to support her.

Being undocumented in this country means being forced to hide a large portion of who you are for the safety of yourself and those around you. Anything less than that means being at risk of leaving this country to a completely foreign space you’ve never been introduced to.
