John,
Today we want to be transparent about something that poses a huge threat to our progress: It's going to be a challenge for Democrats to hold the House majority in 2022.
Democrats currently have the slimmest House majority in modern history, and midterm elections are historically difficult for the president's party. Plus it doesn't help that redistricting has favored Republicans across the country. This means that if Democrats are going to hold the House of Representatives, we cannot lose a single seat — including Cori's.
Fox News has already named Cori a top target of their attacks, and the increasingly far-right GOP will spend millions to defeat our progressive movement. John, we're counting on this grassroots team to help lead Cori to re-election.
As a valued member of this team we have to ask: Will you chip in $5 to re-elect Cori and keep the first activist from the movement in defense of Black lives elected to federal office in Congress?
Our race was decided by just three points in 2020, so we have to be prepared for every possible scenario this cycle.
Folks are all but guaranteed to come out of the woodwork to try and take this seat, whether that be far-right Republicans or less-than-progressive primary challengers who want to return to the status quo. Last cycle, Republicans — and some Democrats — spent tens of millions of dollars trying to defeat progressive leaders including Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, and Rashida Tlaib.
Keeping control of the House of Representatives is critical to pushing our agenda forward. Voters gave us a mandate in 2020 to deliver policies that center the needs of everyday people — but without the House majority, we can say goodbye to progress expanding health care, transforming our criminal-legal system, and investing in climate justice.
Our future opponents may have dark money megadonors and corporate PACs — but we have this people-powered movement. John, can you chip in any amount right now to make sure we have the resources it'll take to re-elect Cori and grow our progressive movement?
In solidarity,
Team Cori
