The January 6th Select Committee has uncovered its first bombshell in their investigation of the Capitol Insurrection.

On January 5th, Trump’s chief of staff and January 6th Committee target Mark Meadows wrote that the National Guard was on standby to “protect pro Trump people.” This revelation raises serious questions about the Trump’s administration’s role in the next day’s coup attempt:

  1. If the violence of January 6th wasn’t planned, why was Meadows reassuring allies they would be protected a day in advance?
  2. To what extent was the National Guard’s delayed response to the January 6th insurrection orchestrated by the Trump administration?
  3. Were insurrectionists instructed to target Pelosi, AOC, and other Democrats?
  4. Why did Meadows stop cooperating with the January 6th Select Committee when he had already handed over such damning documents?
It’s always been difficult to believe that the January 6th insurrection was merely the spontaneous act of an unruly mob, but Meadow’s email seems to eliminate that possibility entirely.
