12/13 Update: Our emergency work was featured on “60 Minutes” last night »

Friend, a brutal winter is setting in across Afghanistan, and 9 million people are on the brink of famine.

Because the need is so urgent, an anonymous donor will match your gift today » [link removed]

Friend, the reports from our teams in Afghanistan are truly troubling.

Imagine having to flee your home at a moment’s notice, not knowing where you or your children will sleep. Now imagine living in a tent in a park. Temperatures dip into the 20s at night and you have no way to keep warm. For many Afghans, this is a daily reality.

Winter conditions are getting worse and displaced families are struggling to access adequate food and supplies. Almost 23 million people are facing food insecurity, 9 million are on the brink of famine, and 1 million children could die if they don’t receive immediate treatment for malnutrition.

Our teams are on the ground in Afghanistan, and in other crisis zones, providing urgent resources and delivering cash assistance so families can purchase fuel for heat, coats, boots, hats and other winter items. But we urgently need your support, Friend:

The IRC has been delivering aid in Afghanistan for over three decades, and we will stay through this crisis too. From supporting underequipped health clinics, to treating children for acute malnutrition, to ensuring families have enough gear to weather the cold — our teams are on the ground delivering continuing care as long as it’s needed.

Here’s the personalized link you can use to send your emergency donation — which will be doubled immediately: [link removed]

Your donations help our staff provide continuing support to refugees and displaced families around the world so they can survive, recover and rebuild their lives.

We know we can always rely on this incredible community. Thank you for all you do for the people we serve around the world.

— Andrea, IRC
