Support fearless journalism

Hi Reader,

ProPublica’s only mission is to publish investigative journalism in the public interest — stories that shine a light on wrongdoing and produce real-world impact.

Here’s one recent example: Days after ProPublica’s heartbreaking investigation into shadow foster care, which told the story of a teenager who was made homeless after child protection workers illegally separated her from her family, North Carolina’s Cherokee County agreed to a $4 million settlement with 21-year-old Molly Cordell. Molly’s lawyers had sued the county for violating her constitutional due process rights, and the trial was expected to begin in January. But the day after our story ran, defense lawyers reached out to Molly with a settlement offer.

Our goal is to produce impact like this through our journalism, but this kind of reporting is time consuming and expensive. It’s no wonder investigative journalism is now considered a luxury that many newsrooms simply cannot afford. ProPublica, by contrast, is a nonprofit, funded by donations from readers who know the power of journalism to watchdog the powerful and hold them to account.

Show your support for deeply researched, fact-based reporting by making a donation to ProPublica before the end of the year.

We’ve got dozens of investigations brewing all over the country, and your donation will power more journalism, more stories, more transparency, more change.

Thank you for standing with us,
Jill Shepherd
