Hey John,

With the new year quickly approaching, many of us are reflecting on the
past year and thinking about what we want to accomplish in the next. I’m
no exception!

2021 brought a lot of real progress. In March, Congress passed the
American Rescue Plan, which provided funding for millions of Americans to
get vaccinated, supported small businesses, and created the Child Tax
Credit—which has helped over 100,000 kids in our district alone.

In the House, we recently passed the Build Back Better Act, which would
make truly historic investments in all of the things families need to be
successful: things like affordable housing, child care, elder care, health
care, and education. It would also create universal pre-kindergarten for
all 3 and 4 year-olds, and make critical investments in green energy. I’m
hopeful the Senate will hammer out the details soon and get it passed so
that families can really benefit.

But I’ll be honest, there were some real disappointments this year. While
the House was able to pass multiple pieces of legislation that would have
protected the right to vote—these bills didn’t pass in the Senate. And
while the House passed legislation to protect a woman’s right to abortion
care, that legislation is also stalled in the Senate, and the Supreme
Court’s pending decision on Mississippi’s abortion ban could erode the
rights provided by Roe v. Wade.

2022 will bring new challenges, and Republicans are *very* eager to take
back the House next November. They have a real advantage—gerrymandering in
a handful of states means they’re bound to pick up several seats. And
traditionally, midterm elections aren’t good for the sitting president’s
party. In 2010 during President Obama’s first term, Democrats lost 63
seats!

Regardless, I'll continue to fight for working people and hold powerful
special interests accountable. But I need your help in this upcoming
race—which could be my most challenging yet. If you can, consider making a
donation today (you can do so with this link:

contribution helps us run a strong campaign, so I can head back to
Washington and keep fighting for real progress.

Thanks so much for considering, and thank you for being a part of our
team!

Onwards to 2022,

Katie
