John, the Supreme Court has allowed Texas's near-total ban on abortion to remain as law.
This will encourage other states across the country to pass similar laws — and it drives home just how urgent it is to pass the Women's Healthcare Protection Act and ensure that the right to choose is codified into federal law.
But there's a barrier to this: the Senate filibuster. Even though the Women's Healthcare Protection Act passed the House in September, it's gone nowhere in the Senate. All because a minority of Republican senators can block a bill from ever coming to a vote.
I call on the Senate to take action and end the filibuster, so that urgently-need legislation like the Women's Healthcare Protection Act can become law. Will you add your name to stand with me?
END THE FILIBUSTER
Ask yourself what's more important: maintaining an outdated parliamentary tactic that allows for minority rule, or passing bills that our country needs?
I'm running for Congress because we need more folks in office with the courage to call for an end to the old political games. It's time for legislators to legislate and get things done for the American people.
From protecting the right to choose, to expanding voting rights legislation, to reducing the influence of special interests in our politics, the filibuster is standing in the way of so much of our potential progress. That has to change.
So will you join me, John? We need at least 3,500 signatures to help amplify our call to action: end the filibuster now >>
Thank you,
Sarah
