My mom taught me from a very young age that, with hard work and faith, I could do anything.

She dedicated her life to service and instilled in me my own commitment to service.

From taking me to knock doors starting at age six to volunteering in my church and community to choosing a path of service, my mom has always guided me — and her example still does today.

I have been led throughout my life by not only this commitment to service but also a pursuit of justice — it’s what’s guided me during my career, first as a public defender, later a judge, and eventually as Chief Justice.

When my very first opponent told people that I couldn’t win because I was a mom, I grabbed the diaper bag, put my twins Matthew and Thomas in the stroller, and knocked on every door that I could. We won that race by 30 points.

That’s the same fighting spirit I’m bringing to this race and that I’ll bring as your next senator. It will be tough. But I’ve never backed down from a tough fight, and I won’t now.
