Hello,

Did you miss Peter’s email earlier this week? We’re hard at work ensuring
paid family leave is included in the Build Back Better Act, but we still
want to hear from you.

[ [link removed] ]Please, read Peter’s note below and then let us know what passing paid
family leave would mean to you and your family.

Thanks so much,

Team Welch

Subject: What would paid leave mean for you?

Hello,

I wanted to give you an update about one issue in particular we’re working
on in Washington: paid family leave.

Right now, there is no federal law ensuring all families have access to
paid family leave, putting us dead last in providing for families and
caregivers globally.

That’s why my progressive colleagues and I are fighting to get it included
in the Build Back Better Act, but we are running into resistance from some
members of my own party.

The question I hear from some of these Members is: how can we afford to
pay for it?

My question to them is: how can we afford not to?

All of us at some point, if we haven’t already, will need to care for a
loved one — a sick child, a spouse who has surgery, an aging parent, or a
family member returning from the military. And being able to express our
love and take the needed leave shouldn’t depend on whether we happen to
work for an employer that can afford to provide it or one who can’t.

But paid family leave is much more than just an economic benefit for our
families and communities. It’s about what kind of society we want to live
in: a society that sees us as individuals, supports families and helps us
get through our toughest times. And it requires a national commitment and
investment to include all workers and families.

We’re making progress to get it included in the Build Back Better Act, but
we need to hear from folks like you.

It’s long overdue that we lead on this issue and get this done for the
American people. Passing paid leave will help ease your burden when the
unexpected happens.

Thank you for speaking out about the issues that matter most to you —
because of you, we keep fighting to make paid family leave a reality for
all.

family.

Thank you,

Peter
