Folks, I want to give you an idea of what it’s like to represent a battleground district in a battleground state.

After I flipped MI-11 blue in 2018, Republicans began attacking me before I could even sponsor my first piece of legislation.

After I won re-election in 2020, an op-ed ran just a few days later arguing for a prominent Republican to run against me in 2022.

You see, when you’re a Democrat defending a historically Republican district like this one, you don’t get a break. Right after Election Day, you have to start gearing up for the next one or you’ll fall behind.

I’m really depending on grassroots supporters like you to power this campaign from start to finish. Will you chip in $25 or whatever you can to help me keep up the pace to close out the fourth and final quarter of this year strong?

I won my election in 2018 by 6.6%.

But after two straight years of negative, misleading and outright false attacks from national Republicans and dark money groups, I won my 2020 re-election by just 2.4%.

Republicans succeeded in narrowing the gap by 4.2%, and if we allow them to gain another 4.2% in 2022 -- we’ll lose.

I can assure you I’m doing everything I can to make sure that doesn’t happen. I have no intention of letting an out-of-touch, Republican extremist flip this seat red just so they can sell out the hard-working families of Michigan’s 11th.

That means long days traveling around the district, talking to voters and recruiting volunteers. It means late nights holding fundraisers and strategy meetings. And when I have 15 minutes to spare, it means writing emails like this one to ask for your financial assistance so I can wake up and do it all over again the next day.

All of this is in addition to the work I’m doing in Congress -- drafting bills, attending committee meetings, voting on legislation, providing constituent services, and so much more.

It is a lot of work, but I want you to know: I’m just as energized and fired up as ever! With Republicans campaigning against me 24/7, we can’t slow down for even one second if we hope to keep this battleground seat blue for an unprecedented third term.
