EARTHJUSTICE | BECAUSE THE EARTH NEEDS A GOOD LAWYER

Dear Friend,
The Trump administration spent four years undermining public lands, our efforts to fight the climate crisis, protections that keep poisons out of our bodies, and our democracy itself. President Biden promised a return to normal, which is certainly an improvement from where we were — but still far from where we need to be.
Advocates like you rose to the occasion to push for more. In the last year, we’ve sent 800,000 letters to the president, cabinet secretaries, regulatory agencies, and members of Congress. We pushed for swift restorations of the damage done by Trump and called out the administration when they weren’t ambitious enough.
Our formula works — dogged legal work by Earthjustice paired with persistent activism from supporters like you. When the previous administration gutted our protections, Earthjustice sued, supporters like you rallied, and we successfully got the restoration process moving.
There's more work to be done and more actions you can help take to secure these protections permanently, but, for now, enjoy reading through a few of our wins from the last year and the personalized comments from supporters like you that pushed us to victory.

“I live in a part of the Willamette Valley that has one of the highest concentrations of hazelnut orchards in the US. Some farmers are using chlorpyrifos on their orchards. It has endangered anyone living, driving, or moving about nearby—which is almost everyone!”

Safeguarded the Endangered Species Act
“The biodiversity crisis is at a critical level. We must course correct immediately or it will certainly be too late. It is time to view these urgent issues with a different perspective rather than taking the easy way out based on the status quo.”

Advocated for the National Environmental Policy Act
“Democracy dies in darkness. Ignorance isn't bliss. NEPA must be restored to full potency. It's an effective check on land grabs, mindless destruction, needless pollution of all kinds. We're paying attention. We want this rule restored.”
— A.W., Shawnee, Kansas
A methane flare at night
Pushed for stronger methane standards
“As I sit here in Portland, OR where the hottest temperatures ever recorded are occurring this weekend, placing a tremendous burden on our people, landscape and wildlife, I feel I must advocate for continued action to strengthen our fight against global warming.”
— J.G., Portland, Oregon
We didn’t score these wins just because the Biden administration took office — they happened because you gave the administration no choice but to implement our agenda. Earthjustice’s relentless work in the courts is essential, but advocates like you provide the public support that convinces the administration to act — and that helps us achieve so much more.
We accomplished so much together this year — and our work continues. As we’ve said before, the process to restore protections can stretch on for years. We’ve yet to finalize many of the wins above, and we need your help to see them through. Join us by taking action on all of the issues.
Sincerely,
Kyle Berquist
