John – this is just heinous.
Last week, we witnessed another community change forever after a gunman, a teen boy, entered a high school in Michigan and killed four people. More reports of children bringing guns to school have emerged since then. And instead of taking action against this heinous gun violence, lawmakers are making children's access to deadly weapons the joke of the internet.

You know as well as I do that our country’s gun violence epidemic is far more than a punchline. We are talking about lives – about family members who will be missing from Christmas cards because they were gunned down.

In fact, safe storage could not be more serious: 75% of school shooters get their gun because the firearm is not stored locked and unloaded in a home. And the weapons these children are holding, these AR15's, are firearms that are designed to cause as much destruction as possible, as quickly as possible.

This “joke” at the expense of gun violence victims, like those murdered at Oxford High School, will only breed more gun violence and spread more tragedy. And I know the majority of Americans don’t support these reckless actions. We must remind Congress what the majority of Americans, gun owning and not, want: Weapons of war out of our homes and off our streets. Please, will you join me and sign our petition calling for a ban on these deadly assault weapons?
