Dear MoveOn member,

When Republicans took control of the U.S. Senate in 2010, Republican
leader Mitch McConnell vowed to make Barack Obama a "one-term president."

While he failed on that front, he succeeded in making the Senate a place
where "good ideas go to die"—as Senator Jeff Merkley says—blocking many of
President Obama's priorities.^1

Now he's doing the same to critical legislation coming out of the U.S.
House of Representatives. Legislation to strengthen the right to vote and
protect our elections. The Dream Act. Gun control. Efforts to crack down
on Washington corruption. And just last week, a $15 minimum wage!

But his "proudest moment?" Confirming Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme
Court.^2

McConnell's successful strategy to remake the Supreme Court started when
he stole a Supreme Court seat from President Obama. "I looked Barack Obama
in the eye," boasted McConnell, "and I said, 'Mr. President, you will not
fill the Supreme Court vacancy.'"^3

After Donald Trump's election, McConnell lost no time changing the rules
of the Senate to ram through Neil Gorsuch, with a bare, partisan majority.
And then, even after Dr. Christine Blasey Ford spoke out about being
sexually assaulted by Kavanaugh, McConnell made sure she'd be ignored and
rammed through Kavanaugh's confirmation anyway.

And now, after Trump tweeted on Sunday that Representatives Alexandria
Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley, and Rashida Tlaib should "go
back" to where they came from, McConnell said that Trump was "not a
racist" and was "on to something."^4

We absolutely MUST defeat McConnell. And polls show that we
can. McConnell's the most unpopular member of the entire Senate, and more
than 60% of the voters in McConnell's home state of Kentucky say that
"it's time for someone new" to represent the state.^5

But make no mistake: McConnell is a formidable opponent. And he will have
unprecedented support from corporate America. With millions of members and
thousands of volunteers, we don't need to match them dollar-for-dollar.
But we do need to fund the staff and infrastructure to expose McConnell,
weaken his standing, and have an impact in Kentucky, which is where you
come in.

Can you chip in $5 a month to help defeat Mitch McConnell in
2020?

[ [link removed] ]Yes, I'll chip in monthly.

[ [link removed] ]No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

Kentucky won't be a key battleground state in the presidential election.
But it will be a key battleground state for the heart and soul of
America—and in the fight to decide whether Republicans will control the
Senate in 2021.

Thanks to the ongoing support of MoveOn members, we're already staffing up
additional campaign infrastructure to impact the election—without
sacrificing resources we need to defeat Trump.

However, we haven't yet signed up enough monthly donors to execute our
full campaign plan, which is why we need your help.

Will you join in and chip in $5 a month to help defeat
Mitch McConnell?

[ [link removed] ]No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

We have to go big in 2020. And defeating Trump will be our top priority.
But that is not enough. Because in 2020, if McConnell and Republicans
still have control of the Senate:

* We won't pass ANY progressive legislation, no matter who wins the
presidency. Medicare for All, the Green New Deal, and debt-free
college stand no chance of survival in McConnell's Senate.
* We won't get to confirm a liberal justice to the Supreme Court, even
with a Democratic president. Remember, McConnell is the man who stole
President Obama's Supreme Court nomination and gave it to Trump, so,
of course, he would be willing to maintain a Supreme Court vacancy for
a full presidential term.
* And our immigration system will remain broken. Protections for
Dreamers, which are supported by more than 75% of voters, passed the
House, but McConnell won't allow a vote in the Senate.

We simply MUST defeat Mitch McConnell in 2020 and seize control from
Republicans. And to do it, we need your ongoing support. Will you join in
and chip in $5 a month to help make it happen?

[ [link removed] ]Yes, I'll chip in monthly.

[ [link removed] ]No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

Thanks for all you do.
