Our democracy is imperiled. It’s hanging on by a thread, and we have to do everything in our power to ensure we protect it. That’s why, alongside my colleagues in the House, we passed the Protecting our Democracy Act this week.

This law ensures the democracy destroying actions by national Republicans the last four years never happen again. It prevents presidential abuses of power and restores the Constitutional system of checks and balances.

This bill is on its way to the Senate, where Mitch McConnell and the Republican minority could block it with a filibuster. The easiest way for us to get to work protecting our imperiled democracy is eliminating the filibuster. If you haven’t already, can you add your name to our petition calling on the Senate to eliminate the filibuster?

Preserving our democracy from the abuses of national Republicans is urgent and must be dealt with now. We know the former president will do anything — and I mean anything — to return to power. Passing this bill — and eliminating the filibuster — will help protect our democracy.

There is so much at stake right now. And the upcoming midterm elections will show which direction our country is headed, which is why we must do everything we can now to strengthen our democracy.
