POLITICO: “Say goodbye to swing districts. Lawmakers are drawing easy wins in dozens of states.”
HELP FIGHT FOR COMPETITIVE ELECTIONS → [[link removed]]
John -- A new analysis from Politico found that during the past decade, “nearly 90 percent of congressional races were easy wins for one party or the other” in states where legislators drew congressional maps in the 2011 redistricting cycle.
The report stated the rate of competitive races was almost twice as high in states where courts or commissions drew the maps. This is a perfect example of why we work to stop map manipulators from exploiting the redistricting process.
If we can reach our mid-month goal of raising $20,000 by Wednesday at midnight, we will have more resources to pressure Congress to pass the Freedom to Vote Act and end congressional partisan gerrymandering.

Competitive and fair elections are the bedrock of our democracy -- they help ensure our electoral system isn't too extreme and polarized. But conservative map drawers in places like Texas are passing new maps that eliminate competitive districts. The Lone Star State now has one lone competitive congressional district -- down from 11!
Eliminating competition by gerrymandering safe seats allows extreme conservatives to avoid appealing to a broader electorate.
On the flip side, extremists have a hard time winning elections when the maps are fair and districts are competitive -- because they have to appeal to a more diverse electorate.
Most Americans want to see progress on healthcare, climate change, and ending gun violence. But none of that is possible if conservatives continue to engineer electoral wins by drawing safe districts and manipulating the maps.
We set a mid-month goal of raising $20,000 by Wednesday at midnight because it would help us pass the Freedom to Vote Act which includes important redistricting standards that may allow for more competitive elections.
Will you pitch in to help us reach our goal?
