$1.8 trillion between 45 million people, John. That's the student loan debt crisis in America.
For years, millions of Americans are held back by mountains of student debt. The $1.8 trillion of student loan debt deepens the racial and class divide in this country, and deepens the struggle felt by so many households.
Right now, student loan payments are paused due to the COVID-19 pandemic — but they're scheduled to begin again on February 1, 2022, unless Biden cancels all student loan debt. With one swipe of the pen, President Biden could cancel that debt and free a generation of people from the crushing burden of student loan debt.
Removing the massive burden of student loans would have immediate effects on our economy. Not only would it contribute to an equitable economic recovery from COVID-19, it will also help close the racial wealth gap.
President Biden and his entire administration has a chance to change the trajectory of millions of lives and pull tens of millions of people out of debt. He has the power to do it. And we need him to use that power now.
This is not the time for half measures, John. We must cancel ALL student debt — and we have to insist that it happens before February 1, 2022. Add your name to our petition now and join thousands of others to demand that President Biden cancel student debt.
In solidarity,
Bowman for Congress
