Josh Stein for Attorney General

Friend,

New reports are showing overdose deaths nationwide rose nearly 30% since the start of the pandemic. Here in North Carolina it’s even worse, with deaths increasing about 40%.

It’s especially tragic because much of this loss and pain was avoidable. Our current opioid crisis is a result of the actions of pharmaceutical companies prioritizing their profits over peoples’ lives. That’s why Josh is hard at work holding those companies accountable and securing much needed relief from them for the people of North Carolina, including treatment and recovery services.

To get help for North Carolinians, Josh negotiated agreements that will bring an estimated $750 million in funds to the state that will go directly to the communities affected the most. The agreement includes Cardinal, McKesson, and AmerisourceBergen – the nation’s three major pharmaceutical distributors – and Johnson & Johnson, which manufactured and marketed opioids. It also requires significant changes to their business practices to prevent a crisis like this from ever happening again.

This is a significant amount of money — and it’s going to make a real difference in people’s lives. Securing justice and providing help like this is why we’re proud to be on Josh’s team and proud to support the work he’s doing.

Now, we’re asking for your help to support his work as well. This is a moment to build on the progress we’ve already made and continue pushing forward. If you’re able, please chip in $10 to keep supporting Josh’s critical work on behalf of North Carolinians as we head into the new year:

Thanks for all your support. There are many more challenges ahead, but we’re proud to have you on our team.
