According to recent studies, millions of Americans would significantly benefit from lower prescription drug prices because of provisions in the Build Back Better Act, a transformational bill Future Forum members were instrumental in passing in the House last month.

When you elected Future Forum Democrats to control the House last year, it was to pass legislation that would provide relief such as lower prescription drug prices for working families.

And House Democrats delivered. It is now up to the Senate to pass this bill and send it to President Biden’s desk before the Christmas break. Will you contribute $5 or more today to defend our majority and continue passing life-changing policies?

So how does Build Back Better lower prescription drug prices for millions of Americans? Here is a breakdown of what the bill would do.

• Authorize Medicare to negotiate the price of certain drugs directly with manufacturers, allowing for more control over what Americans pay
• Require drug companies that increase the price of a drug faster than the rate of inflation to pay a rebate, disincentivizing companies from increasing prices during economic downturns
• Cap at $2,000 how much Medicare recipients spend on prescription drugs
• And starting in 2025, seniors would also be able to spread their drug cost-sharing throughout the year, paying in monthly installments rather than facing high upfront costs

Friends, this would be one of the biggest advancements in health care policy since the passage of the Affordable Care Act, and demonstrates just how an elected government can work for the people.

The Senate must act now and send this to President Biden’s desk for his signature.
