Getting started with the IRC

Did you know the
International Rescue Committee
was founded in 1933 at
the call of Albert Einstein?

Upon Einstein’s request, a committee of American artists, intellectuals and political leaders came together to form an organization to help refugees fleeing the horrors of the Holocaust.

This organization would later become the IRC.

The IRC also delivers aid to people in some of the hardest-to-reach places on earth. In Yemen, our mobile medical teams help women, men and children with no other access to treatment — many of them facing starvation.

In Syria, South Sudan and other crisis hotspots, our teams provide lifesaving support while navigating the bouts of violence and turmoil that occur with ongoing crises.

John — at the IRC, we believe that every human being can lead a meaningful life and we work tirelessly to make that happen.

Today, as the largest refugee resettlement agency in the U.S., we are committed to making a lasting impact on refugees’ lives and giving them the tools and training to succeed. We help adults find jobs, children to start school and entire families to thrive in their new communities.

And in the spirit of Einstein, the IRC is continually developing innovative solutions to help refugees survive and thrive. We are committed to re-inventing and challenging humanitarian aid — and never settling for the status quo — so that we can reach more people and make a bigger difference in their lives. You can learn more about our unwavering commitment to refugees here. We’re so glad to have you with us.

Sincerely,

The International Rescue Committee
