On International Human Rights Day, we're happy to share some good news with you and to show gratitude for your efforts.
Yesterday, human rights lawyer Steven Donziger was released from federal prison after serving 45 days of a six-month sentence for criminal contempt of court. He was discharged to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest. This is a huge victory for Steven and his family and it was achieved due to the growing international movement to support him and the people of Ecuador harmed by Chevron. This includes you!
We must be clear, however, that this is not justice. Not even close. Donziger is the victim of Chevron's corporate prosecution because the gross polluter wants to distract attention from its environmental and human rights crimes against 30,000 Indigenous people and campesinos in the Ecuadorian Amazon.
LET'S HOLD CHEVRON ACCOUNTABLE:

The movement for climate justice must continue to call for the U.S. government to adhere to the U.N. finding:
* Free Donziger from house arrest and drop all the charges
* Compensate him for over two years of unjust detention
* Investigate the corruption and manipulation of the U.S. judicial system by Chevron and the fossil fuel industry to target and intimidate advocates for human rights and environmental justice.
As we recently pointed out in our report Linked Fates, Chevron continues to refine large amounts of Amazon crude in California every single day. It continues to profit off the destruction of the Amazon and violation of Indigenous rights.
Thank you for taking action on this critical issue!
