I have
incredible news to share:

In a major victory for our movement, we just got word that we won our
campaign calling on Rep. John Garamendi (CA-03) to support Medicare for
All! He has officially agreed to sign on as a cosponsor of the Medicare
for All bill in Congress.

While Rep. Garamendi is a Democrat who previously co-sponsored Medicare
for All legislation in past sessions of Congress, he hadn’t agreed to sign
back onto the legislation until now. This victory is the direct result of
months of dedicated organizing, with hundreds of volunteers like you
working hard to get Rep. Garamendi on the bill.

Together we:

* Texted 103,773 voters in Rep. Garamendi’s Congressional district,
where we identified nearly 2,000 new, local supporters
* Called every single one of those supporters and sent them all
personal, handwritten postcards asking them to call Rep. Garamendi’s
office
* Partnered with ten local unions in Sacramento to send a powerful
letter to his office, urging him to sign on in support of Medicare for
All
* Organized a massive car caravan with the help and leadership of our
CA-03 volunteer district leader, Dillan. Together, over 50 cars and a
mobile billboard truck drove through downtown Davis, where we ended at
Rep. Garamendi’s district office
* Projected large-scale images calling for Garamendi to cosponsor
Medicare for All on buildings throughout Davis, including onto his
district office
* Successfully sent hundreds of powerful tweets and compelling letters
to his office
* Appeared in local news outlets amplifying the call for health care
justice in Garamendi’s own community
* Worked with local organizations and activists in Sacramento to pass a
resolution in support of Medicare for All
* Finally, local union leaders and our very own NNU President, Deborah
Burger, RN, met with him on Thursday, December 9th — where he finally
told us that he would commit to cosponsor.

This victory required months of perseverance, creative organizing tactics,
and a profound determination that we needed to win — and now that Rep.
Garamendi is on board, we want to thank him for joining our fight for
guaranteed health care.

you take one minute and sign our thank you card to Garamendi for stepping
up and co-sponsoring the Medicare for All Act of 2021? With his support,
we are one step closer to passing Medicare for All in Congress and
achieving a single-payer health care system.

Our campaign proves once again that consistent organizing at the local
level works. A major goal of our fall campaign was to reach 119 cosponsors
for HR 1976 — one more than we had on last session’s Medicare for All
bill. With Rep. Garamendi’s co-sponsorship locked in, we are thrilled to
share that we’ve officially hit our goal.

It’s clear our strategy is working. Now, it’s up to us to keep organizing
and replicate this success in CA-03 all across the country.

[ [link removed] ]Thank you for taking the time to sign our
thank you card to Rep. Garamendi — we can’t wait to see the kind of impact
your continued activism has across the country!

Onwards,

Jasmine Ruddy
