Friend --

Big news: The House just passed two of Dean's democracy-reform bills!

In case you don't spend your days watching C-SPAN, here's a rundown:

🗳️ First bill: The Voter Choice Act, which would grant money to local and state governments that make the switch to ranked choice voting

🇺🇸 Why it matters: Ranked choice voting is the antidote to political polarization. It allows voters to rank candidates in order of their preference — meaning they can vote for the candidate they actually support, rather than choosing the "lesser of two evils." Ranked choice voting also incentivizes candidates to win over a broad swath of voters, rather than appealing to the extremes. And it's becoming more popular: This November, three more cities voted to implement ranked choice voting!

🏛️ Second bill: The Our Lawn Act, which would prohibit the use of the White House grounds and other federal properties for national political conventions

🇺🇸 Why it matters: In 2020, the Republican Party held its entire convention from the White House. It was an unprecedented collision of partisan politics with the official business of the president. The Our Lawn Act closes a loophole in the Hatch Act, preventing the White House and other federal properties from being co-opted for political purposes again.

This stuff doesn't always make headlines, but rest assured: Dean is gradually restoring the integrity of our democracy with bills like these. If you want to show Dean your support — and help us make more progress toward protecting our democracy in 2022 — chip in to his campaign today!
