Folks,
This week the Virginia Supreme Court’s special masters released their proposed maps for Virginia’s Congressional and General Assembly districts. And we’ll be honest, with these new maps, things don’t look great for Democrats.
Here’s what we know:
- Both Congresswoman Elaine Luria and Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger were drawn out of the districts they represent.
- Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton’s district was redrawn into a district Glenn Youngkin won by over 4 points.
- The maps have divided communities in the New River Valley and diluted the region's unified voice.
- And, with new districts for the House of Delegates, the entire House legislature might have to run again in 2022.
We have to start preparing for whatever comes our way in next year’s elections if we want a shot at holding onto our seats in Congress and quite possibly retaking the majority in the House of Delegates.
Can we count on you to help us start 2022 off strong? Protecting things like a person’s right to reproductive rights, voting rights, criminal justice reform, and all of the progress Virginia Democrats have made depends on us showing up in big ways for next year’s elections.
Chip in whatever you can right now to protect our Democratic representatives in Congress and help us prepare for whatever comes our way with these new maps.
