The Week in Review

Happy Friday!

I hope you all had a wonderful week. I spent my time back in D.C., working on the Fighting Fifth’s behalf. A lot has happened this week, most prominently, House passage of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). Read below to learn more:  

Passing the NDAA

On Tuesday, the House voted on the Fiscal Year 2022 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). The NDAA authorizes funding for activities and programs for the Department of Defense. Congress has a responsibility to ensure that our men and women in uniform have the resources necessary to defend our nation. Unfortunately, Democrats have injected their woke priorities into the heart of this bill. Not only does it ignore our demand to block President Biden’s vaccine mandates, but it continues to focus on progressive priorities that do not strengthen our military. The NDAA should promote American independence and our national security, not the Far Left’s wish list of socialist ideas. Stop the Vaccine Mandates

This week, a court blocked the Biden administration’s vaccine mandate for federal contractors.  This is the latest example of courts  preventing enforcement of President Biden’s unconstitutional COVID-19 vaccine mandates.  Small businesses, healthcare workers, and now, federal contractors, have temporary respite from the President’s vaccine mandates. While I am grateful for the courts’ actions, we cannot continue to rely on the courts.  Congress must act to defend Americans’ liberties. That is why I introduced the Freedom from Mandates Act to permanently end the vaccine mandates.  I will continue to fight for the American people and their freedom to make their own decisions. Save Small Businesses

On Thursday, I sent a letter to Biden’s Small Business Administration (SBA) demanding answers on the troubling reports that it is not providing timely assistance to struggling businesses that have been affected by COVID-19. Relief programs were passed specifically to help businesses throughout the country. The degree of delay from the SBA under the current administration highlights the government’s incompetence to adequately respond and provide relief to individuals and businesses. If the SBA, which has no justification under the U.S. Constitution, is going to continue to exist, it should at least fulfill its mission by working more rapidly to respond to the needs of small businesses. Mass Migration

This week, the Border Security Caucus (which I co-Chair) had the honor of hosting the Honorable Francisco Agapi, who serves as the Mayor of Cémaco, Panama. It was Mayor Agapi’s first trip to Washington D.C. He came to discuss the mass migration problem in his region, specifically the Darien province. In America, we tend to forget that our southern border isn’t the only area impacted by massive surges of illegal immigration. Many areas of Central and South America are facing the same humanitarian horrors that our Border Patrol agents deal with every day. Car Giveaway to Veteran

Today, it was my sincerest pleasure to be a part of a car giveaway to one of our community’s veterans. Sarah is an Army National Guard veteran who fell on hard times upon her return. She had been looking for a job but was repeatedly turned down due to not having any transportation. My office was able to reach out to the veteran support community in the East Valley and the Mesa Chamber of Commerce to help locate a car for her. A car was donated to her this morning by Meineke Auto during the Mesa Chamber’s ‘Mesa Morning Live’ program. With the car came free tickets to Disneyland donated by the organization Arch Angels, and another sponsor approached Sarah to offer her a job. We wish Sara a very Merry Christmas and many blessings in the coming New Year. Check out pictures by clicking below:

My Letter to the IRS

Today, I sent a letter to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) demanding the immediate return of IRS employees to in-person work. There is a huge, and growing, backlog of unprocessed amended tax returns because the IRS refuses to bring its employees back over draconian COVID-19 safety measures. Bottom line, if the majority of Americans are returning to work, then so can IRS employees. Click below to read the full letter: 

Remarks of the Week

This week, I gave remarks in the House Judiciary Committee’s Markup where I asked a simple question: Why haven't the Dems done anything to hold Attorney General Garland accountable for his memorandum targeting parents? Attorney General Garland has failed to answer a letter I sent him last month or provide answers to other Members of Congress. The House Judiciary Committee must hold another hearing with Attorney General Garland so that we can get to the bottom of this issue. Check it out below:
