Running to bring honest, accountable representation to over 700,000 Long Islanders right here in New York's 1st District is proving to be a tough challenge. But it's exactly the kind of challenge I'm up for because this community means the world to me.
I was born and raised here. My mom and dad were deeply involved in our community. Mom was a teacher and Dad a volunteer firefighter and veteran, and through the power of example, they taught my siblings and me the virtue of public service.
From driving around with my dad and other volunteers in a pickup truck to clear fallen trees after Hurricane Gloria in '85, to cleaning litter off our local beaches with students today -- it's always been important to me to do my part.
I feel immense fulfillment in finding commonsense legislative fixes to problems my neighbors face. But while I love my work on the county level, I'm running for Congress to make an even greater impact for my community.
In the face of economic uncertainty, a deadly pandemic that continues to rob us of so much, and a growing climate crisis, I am convinced we can continue to make significant progress if we work together toward our common goals.
Thanks so much for your continued support. Please take care and stay safe.
