Since 2008, the polar bear has been considered an
endangered species. But over the past decade, the threat to polar
bears has only gotten worse, as climate change melts the sea ice
they depend on for survival and oil and gas drilling destroys
their habitat.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is about to conduct
its five-year status review of the polar bear under the
Endangered Species Act. Therefore, a group of colleagues and I
have written a letter to the service calling for updated
protections of this iconic species.

If immediate action isn’t taken, the polar bear could
face extinction. That’s why I need your help today to raise the
alarm bell and protect these precious creatures.

Please add your name to our petition urging the U.S.
Fish and Wildlife Service to provide a clear-eyed assessment of
the threat climate change and drilling pose to the polar bear

The Arctic region is one of the fastest-warming places
on Earth, which means the Arctic sea ice where polar bears live
is rapidly diminishing. Sea ice is the platform polar bears use
to find and catch seals to eat, and snow dens on thickly packed
ice is where female polar bears give birth.

With huge expanses of ice disappearing, many polar bears
are now living on land. But increased industrialization,
especially oil and gas drilling, is posing a serious threat to
this critical habitat.

The only way we can protect the dwindling polar bear
population is to stop oil and gas development in the fragile
areas where they are trying to survive.

It’s hard to imagine a world without polar bears.
Unfortunately, such a reality may be in the not-too-distant
future. Will you help prevent the extinction of polar bears by
