Here's what the Justices ruled this morning.

The fight for abortion access does not end at SCOTUS: Urge the Senate to secure a nationwide safeguard now.

This morning, the Supreme Court issued a devastating ruling in our challenge against Texas' extreme abortion ban, SB 8, brought by the ACLU, the ACLU of Texas, and our partner coalition in Whole Woman's Health v. Jackson.

SCOTUS once again failed to block this cruel six-week ban: SB 8 remains in effect.

The Supreme Court did leave the door open for a small part of our lawsuit to proceed. But that won't prevent abortion providers and others from being dragged into court in bounty-hunter lawsuits.

The ban has now wreaked havoc on people's lives in the state for exactly 100 days and today the Supreme Court allowed it to continue to do so.

Considering this ruling comes just a week after the Court heard arguments in a case that could overturn Roe v. Wade, it is more crucial than ever that we continue fighting. One immediate way to take action is to urge your senators to pass the Women's Health Protection Act – which will protect everyone's right to access abortion, no matter where they live. <[link removed]>

ACLU Supporter, as a reminder, SB 8 bans abortion after six weeks, before many people know they're pregnant. It also enables private citizens to sue providers or anyone for aiding abortion care banned by the law, for a minimum of $10,000 for each abortion.

SB 8's impact has stretched far beyond Texas as state lawmakers are already introducing their own copycat bounty-hunter bills designed to eliminate all abortions within their borders.

The Supreme Court should have rejected this egregious law from the Texas legislature months ago – before thousands of Texans were forced to flee their home state in pursuit of vital medical care, and countless more were forced to continue pregnancies against their will.

The failure again today to block this ban will continue to have devastating consequences for countless people – especially Black and brown communities and those with fewer resources due to systemic racism and other structural inequities.

It is unconscionable that the nation's highest court is continuing to allow politicians to control our bodies and our futures.

The fight ahead is clearly going to be a long one, ACLU Supporter, but make no mistake that we will continue doing everything in our power to restore Texans' ability to exercise their constitutional rights – and to ensure every single one of us has safe and equal access to abortion care across the country.
