Friend,
Today, the Supreme Court allowed Texas’s draconian and unconstitutional abortion ban, S.B. 8, to remain in place temporarily. For three months now, Texans have been faced with an impossible choice: either travel thousands of miles to access their constitutional right to abortion, or be forced into pregnancy. The Supreme Court decided to continue that harm today. But this fight is not over.
The Court also ruled that the lawsuit filed by health care providers and the Department of Justice against the ban can continue. We still have the opportunity to vigorously defend Roe, access to abortion, and equality. You know that I’m going to continue to stand with Texas patients, families, and providers. But we also know that the attacks on Roe v. Wade will continue. The Supreme Court is expected to rule on the constitutionality of Mississippi’s abortion ban soon. We can’t wait any longer to act. We need a federal law once and for all that protects access to safe and legal abortion and prevents extremists from continuing to put lives at risk. This is about public health and equality. Will you stand with me in calling on Congress to pass the Women’s Health Protection Act?
Thanks for all you do,
Maura
