Team, In the last month, the Supreme Court held oral arguments regarding two anti-choice laws from Texas and Mississippi, both of which directly challenge Roe v. Wade and a person’s right to make their own medical decisions. Even with Roe v. Wade in place, many still must travel a significant distance to reach an abortion provider. If the Supreme Court were to overturn Roe v. Wade, and providers are forced to shut down, many Americans would have to travel even further to get medical treatment. Out of state travel is not an option for some and completely out of the questions for others. Many people seeking abortions are already parents that cannot pay for childcare if they were to leave the state for a medical procedure and cannot afford to lose wages by taking time off work. Traveling is also expensive and some simply may be unable to pay for traveling costs such as lodging or transportation. Assuming people can make the trip, there is also a possibility of encountering other state-based restrictions such as waiting periods that can prolong a person’s stay or state-mandated counseling before an abortion can even occur. We must defend reproductive rights, and we must demand the Supreme Court uphold Roe v. Wade. Will you join us and add your name to our petition calling for protection of a person’s right to make their own medical decisions? Future Forum Team
