Dear John, On this Human Rights Day, I’m so grateful for your commitment to the human rights of people throughout the world. Your support for the rights of women and girls is especially important. The mistreatment of females is the most pervasive human rights violation on earth. |
|
Cultural traditions and religious beliefs frequently are used to justify gender-based abuses, including child marriage, female genital cutting, domestic violence, rape, and restricted access to education, jobs, and political participation. The Carter Center is mobilizing religious and traditional leaders to teach against these harmful practices. |

From decades of Carter Center experience, we have seen that the hard fight for human rights begins with changing attitudes. And the key to change starts with delivering training and tools that are culturally relevant. By making a gift today, in honor of Human Rights Day 2021, you can help lead this effort. Your intervention will make a remarkable difference in the lives of vulnerable people who have nowhere else to turn. Your gift also will help support the Carter Center Human Rights Defenders — a global network of hundreds of activists who often put their lives on the line. And you will help continue efforts in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where we are working to stop child labor, illegal land seizure, and environmental damage caused by international mining companies. Through these programs and so many other innovative efforts, you will help oppressed people to elect their own leaders, voice opinions without fear, gain access to justice, and remove the entrenched barriers that prevent them from living in peace.
For the sake of all people, but especially for women and girls, please be as generous as you can. Thank you!
Sincerely,
Jimmy Carter Co-Founder and Trustee The Carter Center
P.S. You and I must not rest until all people in every country have their rights assured. That has always been the goal of The Carter Center. Your support will Build Hope across the globe. Thank you!
