Hi John,
This year was exhausting, but I'm grateful to have spent it with the best community in politics. This bold, fearless community that is doing nothing short of remaking American politics for a generation.
As we wind down for the year, we should all take our break because we deserve it. Get some hot cocoa and spend this holiday season (safely) with the people who bring joy and light into your life. Before we do -- I've got a few parting thoughts on wrapping up this last month.
Run for Something Civics launched to address our government's gerontocracy problem -- a problem that has left young people wildly underrepresented for decades. RFS Civics's programming will include research, storytelling, recruitment, and supporting folks before their campaigns and after election day.
We just celebrated one of our last victories of the year. Jamel Johnson won his special election runoff in Texas for Little Elm's city council. He's our 637th winner! (Still a few more elections to come before 2021 closes out.)
Just last week, we heard Supreme Court arguments on Mississippi's extreme abortion ban. This sets the stage for a far-right conservative Court to overturn Roe v. Wade, with 26 states where abortion would immediately become illegal or likely illegal. Never forget that the bad laws that end up before the Supreme Court all start in state legislatures, and electing pro-choice local leaders who are willing to fight for abortion access matters now more than ever.
And we're fighting hard to recruit candidates for all of them. Tens of thousands of elections are happening in 2022 -- we’ll be there to fight for as many as we can.
We'll need to bring our A-game to 2022. So rest up!
LFG,
