John,
Today is exactly one year out from the 2020 election. Close your eyes for a moment, and picture that day.
Where are you? Who’s around? How do you feel?
If you turn on the TV or the radio, what does it say?
In my mind, I’m with friends watching the election results on TV. I’m nervous, but I’m filled with hope. Because it looks like we are actually about to elect a Green New Deal champion to the Presidency. And not only that, but we might take the Senate, too.
When I picture that day, I picture that for the first time in my life, our generation has been heard. Our call for a Green New Deal has defined this election, and it may soon become a reality.
One year from today, that could be the world we live in. I believe we can get there.
But getting there is going to take A LOT of work. In the next year, we need to turn out young people to vote in historic numbers for Green New Deal champions. We need to launch hundreds of new hubs in every corner of the country to spread our movement. And all the while, we need to continuously keep up the pressure on candidates to make sure that the Green New Deal stays central to this election.
I know that we can do this--but it’s going to take all of us going all-in for the movement over the next year.
That will look different for everyone. For a few people, that might mean quitting your job and working with Sunrise full-time. But for most, going all-in will simply mean giving this movement whatever you can: showing up to hub meetings and actions on early mornings or late nights after work; knocking doors on weekends to help get out the youth vote; and chipping in a few dollars when you’re able.
There are tens of thousands of people in this movement, and we’re growing every day. If we all go all-in this year, then I know that we can wake up on November 3rd, 2020 and find ourselves on the verge of winning everything we’ve hoped for.
But right now, we need to commit. Will you pledge today to go all-in with me? Here are a couple of ways to start:
Pledge to go all-in with Sunrise until we win in 2020 by committing your ongoing support through a monthly donation of any amount that works for you. Or, make a one-time donation here.
Organize a strike in your town for the next nationwide climate strike on December 6th, when we’ll set the stage for primary season by showing that young voters everywhere demand a Green New Deal.
Let’s do this.
