Hi, Louis DeJoy's biggest defender is GONE from the Postal Board of Governors. Now we have a crucial opportunity to fight back and save the postal service. Former Chair Ron Bloom was DeJoy's key ally on the Postal Board of Governors, but Biden has decided not to renominate him. And not a moment too soon. DeJoy has gutted the Post Office, causing huge problems with mail delivery while helping implement Trump's agenda. President Biden just announced two new nominations to the USPS Board of Governors. The Senate is about to vote on their confirmation, which is a crucial opportunity to get firm commitments from them to stop DeJoy and reverse the damage he's done.1 One audit shows that before DeJoy's tenure, 92 percent of mail was delivered on time. But by the fall of 2020, only 80 percent was delivered on time. And by January of 2021, it was just above 60 percent! As Congresswoman Katie Porter put it when she pulled out her famous whiteboard to shred DeJoy in a recent hearing, "60 percent is at best a D-minus. The Postal Service delivers 48 percent of the world's mail. It is an institution, it is a civic treasure...we let it get all the way down to that D-minus level."2 On-time mail delivery is critical for so many of our community members. Seniors are forced to pay bills before receiving their Social Security checks. Veterans have to wait, and perhaps even go without, critical prescriptions. And, it can lead to us feeling even more disconnected from our loved ones in a time when it's easy to feel isolated. The Postal Board of Governors needs to oust DeJoy and turn around the postal service. And the Senate needs to push Biden's nominees to help make it happen.
