Here's something that doesn't make sense: taxing California families TWICE on the same dollar.
That's exactly what happened after Trump's tax hike was passed in 2017. It capped state and local tax (SALT) deductions at $10,000 to the detriment of Orange County homeowners.
The SALT Deduction Cap needs to go. I fought to change it when I was in Congress by introducing the Restoring Tax Fairness for States and Locality Act and co-sponsoring the bipartisan SALT Act.
Michelle Steel, on the other hand, has stood by this policy and supported higher taxes on Orange County voters — just another example of her choosing the GOP over her OWN constituents.
The Build Back Better Act will raise the SALT Deduction Cap 700%. That means middle-class Orange County families will have to pay thousands less in taxes. Combined with other tax reforms, the Build Back Better Act should return an average of $12,750 to the pockets of California families. This is EXACTLY the kind of common-sense change I'm committed to fighting for when I'm reelected.
The race between me and Michelle Steel will be really close. The more we prepare now, the bigger advantage we'll have in November. Will you chip in now?

Harley Rouda served California's 48th district in Congress. In 2018, Harley defeated the 30-year incumbent Dana Rohrabacher in the very first political campaign of Harley's life. During his time in Congress, he's embraced common sense and values to tackle climate change, address deteriorating infrastructure, confront homelessness, and protect Social Security and Medicare. In 2022, Harley will be facing one of the toughest fights in the entire country, so he's depending on the support of grassroots individuals.
