We need Dem AGs fighting for student loan forgiveness
Friend,
The pandemic has intensified the need for far-reaching student loan forgiveness. Existing student loan repayment systems set borrowers up to fail, especially while they navigate the uncertainties of life during COVID-19.
Luckily, Democratic AGs are fighting to protect student borrowers and reform this broken system. Because of the hard work of Democratic AGs and the Biden Administration, California AG Rob Bonta was able to end a lawsuit that his office had filed against Trump’s Department of Education in June 2020 to fix two critical loan forgiveness programs. These programs have seen a sweeping overhaul in recent months that has begun to ease the burden that student debt imposes on borrowers – but there’s still so much more to do, and we have to support Dem AGs as they fight for us.
The student debt crisis is not going to solve itself, and we need Dem AGs in office to advocate for student borrowers.
Student debt is a multi-generational crisis that affects people of all parties, races, and ages. The consequences for millions of Americans who are unable to manage their student loan debt are catastrophic, especially within communities of color.
Those unable to get meaningful relief from student loan debt risk losing administrative wages, earned income tax credits, and even Social Security retirement and disability income.
Before the COVID-19 pandemic and recession, student loan borrowers were already struggling and owing more than they originally borrowed. And it’s only getting worse. That’s why we need Dem AGs in office, advocating for student loan forgiveness for everyone.
Democratic AGs truly are “The People’s Lawyers” and DAGA is the only party committee devoted to electing more of them. Since 2016, we’ve won two-thirds of our targeted races, and with more than 30 AG seats up for grabs in 2022, we need your support – will you chip in today?
