Dear John,
Thank you to everyone who joined us for today’s conversation with legal scholar Charlotte E. Blattner and Sentience’s Executive Director Silvano Lieger about the historic fundamental rights for primates initiative that will be voted on by the residents of the Swiss canton of Basel-Stadt in February 2022.
As Charlotte said in today’s talk, this is a historic initiative that seeks to have nonhuman primates recognized as rights-bearers—bearers of individual and actionable rights.
We are so encouraged by this initiative and all the work Sentience is doing to ensure that nonhuman primates have their fundamental rights recognized and protected. This initiative is an important step in the global movement for animal rights.
