Holiday Drive Through

Holiday Drive Through at Venue 1012
presented by Allied First Bank returns Friday, Dec. 17

Event postponed one week due to forecasted rain

After last year?s success, the Village of Oswego and presenting sponsor Allied First Bank are bringing back the Holiday Drive Through at Venue 1012 on Friday, Dec. 17 from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. The event, originally set for Dec. 10, has been postponed due to inclement weather ? we wouldn?t want Santa?s elves to catch a cold during such a busy time of year!

This Holiday Drive Through brings the return of illuminated first response vehicles, delightful holiday scenes, your favorite holiday tunes, a whole cast of your favorite holiday characters sponsored by Baird & Warner, and an appearance by Santa himself. Children will receive a goody bag from Santa?s elves while supplies last.

?Last year?s event was such a great way to celebrate Christmas, even though we couldn?t gather together, we wanted to bring it back and add even more fun to the holidays,? Village President Troy Parlier said.

Allied First Bank serves as the event?s presenting sponsor, making it possible to bring this great event back for the enjoyment of all.

?Allied First Bank has enjoyed being part of Oswego?s annual Christmas Walk, we were glad to help bring another opportunity to celebrate the holidays to the community,? said Ken Bertrand, bank President and CEO. ?We can?t wait to see you and your families there.?

Venue 1012 is located at 1012 Station Drive, near Orchard Road. Cars can expect to take between 10 and 15 minutes to get through the display route. Cars will be directed to the intersection of Lewis Street and Orchard Road to enter the event from Station Drive.

Winter leaves
2021 leaf collection completed

The Village of Oswego has completed its final leaf collection of the season as of Thursday. Due to the later-than-normal leaf drop, collection was extended by an additional week, however crews will no longer be collecting leaves.?

Public Works must conclude leaf collection to provide adequate time to prepare equipment for snow plow operations. The same trucks used for leaf collection are converted to spread salt and plow snow to keep streets safe in the the event of snow and ice.?

Leaves are also beneficial for lawns, plant beds and around trees and shrubs as a more environmentally friendly approach to disposal. For more information on alternative disposal methods, visit www.oswegoil.org/leaves [ [link removed] ]

Officials announce recommendation
on region's future water source

Water will, in fact, link the communities of Montgomery, Oswego, and Yorkville. For more than a year, elected officials and staff from each municipality have researched and reviewed future alternate water source options individually and collectively as a regional team aptly named WaterLink.

Officials and staff from the three communities will recommend the DuPage Water Commission at their respective December Board Meetings as the plan of action for sourcing water to the region. The DuPage Water Commission is a well-established organization that has reliably provided Lake Michigan water to its customers since 1992. The recommendation is based on the quality and sustainability of Lake Michigan water and the proximity to the existing DuPage Water Commission system, providing the lowest combined total cost of a new water source for the three communities.

On Monday, December 13, the Village of Montgomery Board will formally consider selecting Lake Michigan water via the DuPage Water Commission. The Village of Oswego and the United City of Yorkville will follow suit at their meetings Tuesday, December 14.

"This partnership between Oswego, Yorkville, and Montgomery allowed us the opportunity to pool collective resources and expertise to find the best long-term solution for our residents and businesses. The goal is a safe, reliable water source for generations to come," Oswego Village President Troy Parlier said.

The WaterLink group will release more information as it is available, but officials expect terms and formal agreements to take approximately a year to solidify. In some communities, the switch to Lake Michigan water could occur as early as 2027. However, officials forecast that the region may not rely entirely on Lake Michigan to source water until closer to 2030. For more information, residents are encouraged to visit their respective websites, follow social media, and sign-up for community newsletters and notifications.

Oswego Police Department maintains CALEA accreditation

The Oswego Police Department has once again earned reaccreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA). In November, the CALEA Commission voted to approve reaccreditation of the Oswego Police Department, recognizing their excellence in public safety and commitment to community.

?We?ve known our police officers were among the best based on their dedication to the community, service to our residents and commitment to excellence,? Village President Troy Parlier said. ?The CALEA reaccreditation confirms what we already know as a community. We are very proud of our police department.?

CALEA conducts annual assessments of the agency over a four-year period, evaluating an agency's compliance with more than 400 accreditation standards. The process includes a detailed site-based assessment, conducted virtually this year due to COVID-19. The approach not only further confirmed standards adherence, but also assessed effectiveness measures, process management and intended outcomes.

Originally accredited in 2005, this is the sixth time the department has received accreditation. Only 4 percent of law enforcement agencies in the U.S. have received CALEA accreditation.?

?It has become the culture of this department to operate at these high standards,? Chief Jeff Burgner said. ?This award is validation that our personnel and operations are aligned with national guidelines and best practices for the delivery of public safety services.? ?
