Dear John,

Last week, we asked people to help us make good news, and it worked! Donations – especially those received during Giving Tuesday – have poured in, helping us to bring you some brilliant stories from Afghanistan and Jordan.

Take a look to see how you’re supporting displaced people and refugee families as they prepare for the harsh winter months ahead:

Aid airlifted to Afghanistan

Winter temperatures in Afghanistan can regularly drop to -25⁰C, meaning that humanitarian help is needed throughout the intense winter months. The good news is that the first planes full of winterization kits have arrived in the country this week. These kits contain flooring, partitions and other shelter items to insulate tents against the cold.

Changing lives in Jordan

Huda’s life has been very difficult since her husband died in the Syria emergency, leaving her to bring up her five children alone. She’s spent nine years as a refugee in Jordan, often without enough money for food. However, UNHCR’s cash assistance has provided her money for food, rent, heating, blankets and warm clothes.

Thank you for caring about refugees and displaced people. They have a long, hard winter ahead of them, but delivering lifesaving supplies and other assistance will help these families stay healthy and warm in even the harshest conditions.

Thank you,

Breno Valentini
