Throughout the month of September, PIF surveyed 1,000 Americans in mixed status families. Today, we are sharing the alarming results from the poll, which show us that there is still a lot of work to be done in thawing the chill left by the Trump-era public charge regulation. Keep reading for more information on the poll results, as well as information about an upcoming webinar with the pollsters

This week, we are also sharing a reminder about next week’s webinar on assistance for people fleeing Afghanistan, a new Keep Your Benefits toolkit, new translated COVID outreach media from the Coalition for Asian American Children and Families, plus a new brief from the Urban Institute on the importance of centering race in immigration policy research.


** PIF Poll Results + PIF Poll Takeaways Webinar
------------------------------------------------------------

This morning, PIF released the result of its poll ([link removed]) , finding that ¾ of immigrant families don’t know the Biden Administration has reversed the Trump public charge policy. The research was funded by Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry campaign ([link removed]) . As the pollster’s memo details, the good news is that PIF’s messages are effective, and communication with families significantly increases their willingness to get the help and care they need.

Our polling firm, BSP Research, has agreed to join a webinar for PIF partners at 1pm ET / 10am PT on Monday, December 20. ** PIF Webinar Next Week: Providing Health, Nutrition and Other Assistance to People Evacuating Afghanistan

As a reminder, our upcoming webinar focused on providing health, nutrition and other assistance to people evacuating Afghanistan is next Tuesday, December 14, at 2 PM ET/ 11 AM PT. On the webinar, we will provide background about Afghans arriving in the U.S. in the last few months, where they are being processed and resettling, what their immigration process looks like, and what some of their needs are.

** Keep Your Benefits Social Media Toolkit
------------------------------------------------------------

Public benefits can help immigrants stay healthy and thrive; however, many avoid accessing these benefits because of confusing Public Charge rules and other concerns. The Legal Aid Society of San Mateo County and the LIBRE Project have created a series of social media posts and a toolkit ([link removed]) to help encourage immigrants to access benefits. ** New Urban Brief on Centering Race and Racism in Immigration Policy Research
------------------------------------------------------------

The Urban Institute published a new brief, Centering Race and Racism in Immigration Policy Research: Considerations and Lessons from the Field ([link removed]) , which shares the lessons from a September workshop where leaders from policy research and advocacy met to discuss the intersection between race, structural racism, and immigration. Several recommendations identified through the workshops include addressing gaps in data sources, building capacity for multilingual data collection, elevating immigration and language concerns in equity measures, analyzing structures in addition to individual outcomes, cultivating trained research teams, and creating more collaborative tables to set research agendas.


** CACF COVID-19 Safety and Vaccines: Translated Outreach Resources
------------------------------------------------------------

The Coalition for Asian American Children and Families (CACF) has developed culturally competent and language accessible resources about the COVID-19 pandemic for Asian American communities, in collaboration with NYU’s Center for the Study of Asian American Health (CSAAH) and with the support of the Asian and Pacific Islander American Health Forum (APIAHF) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). These resources have been translated into Arabic, Bengali, Traditional and Simplified Chinese, Hindi, Japanese, Korean, Nepali, Punjabi, Urdu, and Vietnamese.
