Dear MoveOn member,
Finally, some good pandemic news: Pfizer yesterday announced that its
COVID-19 booster offers protection against the omicron variant.^1
While Pfizer's findings are preliminary, scientists have speculated that
the high jump in antibodies that comes with a COVID-19 vaccine booster can
counter what seems to be a decrease in effectiveness of the initial two
vaccine doses alone.^2
With the omicron variant appearing to be even more transmissible than the
delta variant, it's more important than ever to spread the word that the
booster—and all three doses for people who are not yet vaccinated—is the
best way that we can protect ourselves, as well as our community.^3
That's why MoveOn wants to offer you a unique way to spread the message,
share your values, and protect your vaccination card all at once with a
free "Pro-Science, Pro-Health, Pro-Vaccine" vaccine cardholder!

Although vaccination numbers are continuing to tick up, the United States
is still averaging more than 1,000 deaths per day from COVID-19, driven
almost entirely by infections among unvaccinated individuals.^4
Much of the hesitancy from unvaccinated people is coming from rampant
misinformation about COVID and vaccines that is being spread online and,
crucially, by Republican politicians themselves.
Far-right Texas Governor Greg Abbott has taken the lead, banning many mask
and vaccine mandates recommended by public health officials and throwing
his support to anti-vaccine conspiracy theorists—human cost be damned.^5
Make no mistake, Abbott's decision is a political one: He hopes that he
can win his election in 2022 by riling up the Republican base and
weaponizing public health advice, using the same playbook that gave
Republicans victories in Virginia last month.^6
MoveOn is doing everything in its power to fight back, including preparing
to run an enormous campaign to defeat COVID conspiracy-peddling
Republicans up and down the ballot during next year's midterm elections.
We'll be rolling out our plans in the coming weeks, but if you want to get
involved right now—and protect your vaccine card from damage at the same
time!—you can order one of our free "Pro-Science, Pro-Health, Pro-Vaccine"
vaccine card holders to help spread the word and fight back against
right-wing misinformation!
