Friend,

We were planning on sending an email about Australia's new proposed voter ID law. Experts and leaders warned the new restrictions would make it harder and often nearly impossible for First Nations people to vote, and it was already receiving massive community backlash.

But, before we could even draft our email that voter suppression had gone global — the Australian government killed the voter suppression bill. When the Australian people used their collective voices to fight for justice, they stopped an anti-democratic law in its tracks.

Meanwhile, in America... politicians have been passing egregious voter suppression laws left and right. This year alone, 19 states have enacted 33 laws that will make it harder for Americans to vote.

Every single American politician, regardless of political party, should be sounding the alarm about voter suppression. These laws are a blatant attack on our right to vote, and experts are already warning the 2022 midterms will be the biggest challenge to American democracy in generations.

Will you sign our petition now demanding Congress pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act to put a stop to voter suppression in America? We need to unite like they did in Australia and demand our leaders act to save our democracy.

At an event this week, President Obama said "the stakes could not be higher" for democracy. He's right — and we need politicians in Congress to take action before it's too late.

Onward,
